A pair of gunmen riding on a motorcycle shot and killed a man walking the streets of Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas. Government officials continuously claim the capital city is safe despite rampant extortion, kidnappings, and shootouts.

The murder took place around 11:00 a.m. Sunday on Avenida Río Frío, near Camino Real, in the colonia of the same name, according to initial information from the case. The murder took place near an area that is well known locally for alleged drug distribution.

The victim was walking along the sidewalk when the attackers approached on a motorcycle and began firing. By the time authorities arrived, the unidentified man was already dead.

As of the latest available information, authorities had not publicly released further details about the victim’s identity or the circumstances of the attack.

Unconfirmed accounts claimed the man was allegedly involved in the sale of synthetic drugs in a nearby area. That information could not be independently verified.

The killing comes amid growing concern over criminal activity in Ciudad Victoria, where reports of armed confrontations, vehicle pursuits, and disappearances continue to raise questions about public security and the effectiveness of police operations. Breitbart News Foundation has consistently reported on the growing violence in the region and how the Tamaulipas government continues to deflect the issue by promoting a false narrative of safety and doctored statistics.

Law enforcement sources consulted by Breitbart News Foundation attributed part of the recent violence to the alleged presence of Los Escorpiones, a criminal faction linked to the Gulf Cartel, which operates in northeastern Mexico.

Other security incidents reported in the city include attacks on government surveillance cameras and cases of forced disappearances by cartel gunmen—a practice known in Mexico as a “levantón.”

The violence in Ciudad Victoria, which is a small city for being a state capital, continues to grow despite being one of the regions with the highest concentration of law enforcement, including state and federal forces, as well as various branches of the Mexican military.

Editor’s Note: Breitbart News Foundation traveled to Mexico City and the states of Tamaulipas, Coahuila, and Nuevo León to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities. The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas, including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas, if a pseudonym were not used.
